TIDES

A tide is the regular falling and rising of an ocean. Tides are created by the gravity between the Moon and the Earth. When the Moon pulls the Earth or the Earth pulls the Moon it creates tidal bulges because they get pulled away from the water. Spring tides occur when there is a full moon or a new moon and the Moon and the Sun's gravitational pull combines. They happen when the Moon, the Earth and the Sun are in a line. Neap tides happen when the Moon is at it's quarter phase and the Sun and the Moon work more to keep the tides from forming. This process causes smaller tides to form. When you compare low tides to high tides it is called tidal range. The coastline of the lands are a very important part in tidal ranges. If the shape of the coastline is long and narrow, then there is more tidal ranges in that area.
