A drainage basin or watershed is part of land which rain or snow melts and falls downhill into rivers, lakes, streams, dams, wetlands, estuaries, seas or the ocean. The drainage basin is like a funnel or a bathroom sink. A drainage basin acts like a funnel because it picks up all the water on the land and putting it into a waterway.
